Every day a different body. Every day a different life. Every day in love with the same girl.

There’s never any warning about where it will be or who it will be. A has made peace with that, even established guidelines by which to live: Never get too attached. Avoid being noticed. Do not interfere.

It’s all fine until the morning that A wakes up in the body of Justin and meets Justin’s girlfriend, Rhiannon. From that moment, the rules by which A has been living no longer apply. Because finally A has found someone he wants to be with—day in, day out, day after day.

I guess I should begin this review with the following words: this book is bloody brilliant! I absolutely regret not picking up this book sooner, and how I turned a blind eye when this novel was the rave two years ago. Why I even ignored this fantastic book, I have no idea, but better late than never right?

For those of you who haven't read this incredible novel, let me sum it up for you: we've got a sixteen year old soul who wanders from body to body every day, ever since he was born. 365 days—365 bodies in a year. Our hero calls himself A and is a wandering soul, and no one knows how he came to be, not even himself, and the only thing that has formed his humanity is the variety of memories he acquires as he lives on.

"I am myself—I know I am myself—but I am also someone else."

David Levithan's words are close to impeccable. It's beautiful, lyrical and a free flow of sensational messages that are just so out of this world, and it is rare for me to wholly fall in love with a book, but Every Day just caught me off guard and had me hooked with a concept so original and enigmatic, the whole journey left me agape.

Not only did Every Day leave me speechless, it also had me questioning my very own existence in this world—I know, I'm a weirdo (and a deep thinker too). Though, I honestly think at least 7 out of 10 people who read this masterpiece must have thought the same thing: is A real? Or rather, is the idea of A real?

"I am not the devil, but I could be."

Despite how this is a Young Adult romance novel, it wasn't the romance that hooked me, but the idea of A waking up as a different type of person each day. Levithan captured realistic idea of different kinds of sixteen year old kids, from gluttons to addicts to depressed individuals to spoiled brats and to religious freaks. There are satirical moments that will make you chuckle, and there are moments when his scenarios pack a heavy punch in the gut, especially when he awakens in individuals you absolutely relate to.

But as much as I would like to say that I loved this book so much, the ending wasn't to my liking. It felt abrupt, and too sudden and absolutely open ended. I didn't even realize it was already the end until I let my eyes flow to Acknowledgments page. However, this book still gave me the chills and when I found out about the sequel coming out later this year, written in the POV of A's love interest, Rhiannon, I was more than thrilled.

If you haven't read this book yet, I don't know what you're doing with your life. Every Day is a fast read and if you get hooked, you'll surely devour it in a day, or probably even less. Rest assured, if you pick this up, you will never regret it.

I'm really intrigued by the idea of someone waking up in a different body every day as well. I am sorry to see that the ending was abrupt. :/

  6. I've always wondered, even when I was younger, if life was a dream and when you die, do you really DIE or do you just wake up from the dream as a baby? I guess that's basically a type of reincarnation, but I've always been a deep thinker as well who analyzes the shit out of EVERYTHING... I blame my mother lmao. I am starting to get annoyed with open endings, though. I definitely want to pick this up but it will be once I recover from "Normal" LOL

    1. Aw man, sorry this book didn't do it for you. :( This is my first Levithan book anyway, I still haven't tried his other works so I'm not exactly sure if his writing style is consistent. :)

  11. Girl I told you David was good! This man can do NO wrong to me, especially when it comes to his solo work. I'm so happy you ended up loving one of my favorite books. Now if only Forbidden and Patrick Ness's novels can find their way into your hands that would be great lmao. Lovely review as usual my friend :)
